Monohull Bareboat Charters in the British Virgin Islands and the Leeward Caribbean Islands
Bareboat chartering is where a yacht is rented for a specified time (usually a week or two) and is then used to sail and explore a certain geographical area by the renter and a spouse, friend or group of friends. In other words, you sail it yourself, no hired captain or crew is involved unless specifically asked for. The bareboat vacation has become increasingly popular over the years.
The British Virgin Islands is commonly referred to as ’the sailing capital of the world.’ It has so many beautiful bays, beaches, reefs and cays in close proximity that the location is perfect for a bareboat vacation. Not only that but the BVI has almost perfect temperatures year round as well as steady trade wind breezes. You have the choice of deserted and serene, palm-lined sandy beaches, or a bay with beach bar, restaurant and local band for dancing the night away. High end gourmet restaurants are also available but many prefer to barbecue a steak under the stars on the boat’s grill.
Before you can rent a bareboat the charter company needs to know if you are qualified to safely sail or pilot the yacht. So you will be required to provide a sailing ‘resume’ of your experience to your broker. If you have no experience sailing courses are available. From complete novice to qualified bareboat captain can be achieved in two weeks and your broker can make all the arrangements. Even when you are qualified sometimes ‘charterers’ prefer to take a captain for a day or two until they feel comfortable.
