Tortola is the largest island and its large harbour on the south side is where the capital, Road Town, is situated. This is a bustling capital with modern offices, museums, a botanical garden, diverse restaurants and interesting shops. It is also home base to of many charter boat companies, such as the Moorings, TMM, Conch Charters, BVI Yacht Charters, etc. The islands’ airport is on Beef Island, connected to Tortola’s east end by a modern bridge. At Tortola’s west end is Soper’s Hole, the ferry terminal for St Thomas and St John and home to the famous ‘Jolly Roger’ pub and guest house. In between are many fine beaches and bays. The most famous is probably Cane Garden Bay, a beautiful palm lined beach with a wide choice of beach bars and restaurants. Quito’s bar and night club is here, as is Myetts and many others. On the islands ridge is Sage Mountain National Park, with tropical flora and fauna in abundance as well as magnificent views on both sides of the island. Trellis Bay at the island’s east end is home to Aragorn’s amazing arts and crafts center and an island style cyber café. The monthly full moon parties are held here with local buffet, fungi music, mocko jumbies and the burning fireballs. At Apple Bay Bomba’s full moon party is wildly popular. It was Bomba’s brainstorm that started the full moon party tradition back in the early 90s. In Trellis Bay on Bellamy Cay the ‘Last Resort’ serves hilarious entertainment by the ‘Singing Chef,’ and a short ferry ride takes you to Marina Cay, the Pusser’s island where pirate entertainer, Beans enthralls an ecstatic crowd at Happy Aaaarhhh. Other hot spots on the island are Nanny Cay, just west of Road Town and home to a protected marina and well run boat yard. Many charter companies operate from here including Horizon Yachts Charters, Catamaran Company and Virgin Traders. ‘Peg Legs’ is the watering hole of choice. Hodge’s Creek, just east of Road Town is where the Sunsail Charter company base is located. Close by is Fat Hog Bob’s, famous for healthy portions. Over the last thirty years Tortola has made a remarkable transformation from sleepy backwater to vibrant island paradise. The BVI finance services is booming and continuous to growth strong and tourist it’s the second pillar of the economy. Virgin Gorda
Virgin Gorda’s highlight is the Baths, an exceptionally beautiful piece of coastline with sparkling white sand, sprinkled with giant house-size boulders. The trails through the grottoes and caves are not to be missed. It is often called the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World.’
There are many pristine white sand beaches along the island’s western shore and some colorful reefs for snorkeling. At the island’s north eastern end lies Gorda Sound, a protected body of water perfect for water sports and home to the Bitter End Yacht Club, Saba Rock, Biras Creek, the Fat Virgin Café, the Sandbox and Leverick Bay Resort.
Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour is a delightful refuge for tying up dockside and close by world famous Little Dix Hotel.
Anegada
Anegada is the ‘drowned island.’ It’s only 28 feet at the highest point but the whole perimeter (30 miles) is one long beach. Inside the surrounding reefs on the island’s north side the calm, turquoise lagoon provides great snorkeling. Anegada is famous for its lobsters, caught on Horseshoe Reef, purported to be the third longest continuous reef in the world. Pink flamingoes inhabit the many salt ponds and a unique iguana hides in caves on the north shore. Local sea food restaurants abound.
Jost Van Dyke

Jost van Dyke is famous for Foxy’s, a watering hole, island style restaurant and gift shop made famous by the maestro himself.
Weekend evening entertainment has the girls dancing on the tables. The main harbour of Great Harbour houses other fine eateries and bars, Baba’s and Corsair’s to name just two. It is also where customs, immigration and police are located.
Further east local lobster restaurants can be found in Little Harbour and White Bay to the west is home to the famous Soggy Dollar bar and Ivan’s shell bar, ‘the Local Flavor.’ He also hosts a very popular camp ground.
Off Josts’ eastern end lies Sandy Cay with its beautiful palm lined beach, recently donated to the BVI’s National Parks by the philanthropic Rockefeller. Nearby is Sandy Spit, a one palm tree cay, with good snorkeling in calm weather. Foxy’s Taboo is close by for lunch.
The Sister Islands
The Sister islands include the island of pirate lore, Norman. Peter Island is privately owned but hosts a wonderful beachfront restaurant. Cooper has a beach club. Salt Island has a world famous wreck, the Rhone. Marina Cay has a pirate bar and a Pusser’s restaurant. Necker is a luxurious private island…the list goes on. Come and check it out!
