Leverick Bay - Virgin Gorda
Virgin Gorda is one of our favorite British Virgin Islands. Actually, when my husband and I first moved here we lived in Virgin Gorda for 4 years. My first job in the BVI was as a chef in a villa in Virgin Gorda’s North sound at Leverick Bay. From that experience I found myself cooking in almost all the homes around Leverick Bay, then later on for “The Moorings, “Sunsail” private Crewed Yacht Charters.
Today Virgin Gorda is the Mecca for BVI beaches and attractions. And since my days there almost 20 years ago, Virgin Gorda has managed to keep the slow-paced living, crime free, tranquil; a real piece of paradise. There are many white sand beaches, and our favorites are The Baths, Devil’s Bay, Valley Trunk Bay, Savanna Bay, Nail Bay, Mahoe bay and Eustacia Island, all with snorkeling right off the beach.
Spanish Town (Virgin Gorda's only town!) is the sailor’s choice with a marina, shopping and dining; the Copper Mine, over 400 years old, remains a popular stop in the southeast. Hikers may decide to take on Gorda Peak near the center of the island, a rugged trail that leads up to 1,359 feet above sea level. A 360-degree view of sapphire blue waters and verdant hills and valleys is the reward for the most intrepid! A jaunt to the North Sound area lends itself to diving, snorkeling and boating pleasures not forgetting many dining choices.
